Insecure Writer's Support Group: August

I have reached 70,538 words on my WIP.  Some of you may remember that I set a goal for myself of 70,000 words in 3 months and I did it.  Is it done? Hahahahahahahaha....NO.

I have a beginning a middle and an end, but there are big ol' holes in the plot that need filling.

I am looking forward to doing the rewrites, but as I sit here looking at all these hand written pages, I wonder: "Is it worth it? Can I make it good enough?"

I was talking with my brother last week, and I said something to the effect of "I always have good ideas, but never the beginning or the end."  He responded with the most accurate description of me I have ever heard: "You write just like you live your life: you never know where you're going, but you just keep moving."

So I guess based on my brother's very accurate assessment of me I should apply my life philosphy to my rewrites: keep moving and see where I end up.

  1. Congrats on reaching your WIP goal! 70531 words is amazing regardless of plot holes! You should own it and be proud of that achievement. I also think that to keep moving is a very healthy philosophy to have. With that attitude I am sure you can make anything even better than good. Cheers!

  4. Big time congrats on surpassing your goal, it's something to be proud of.

I can totally relate to the 'good ideas but no beginning and end' scenario, though.

Keep moving and keep rewriting....it'll all come together for you, I'm sure :)

  5. Most people never finish the first draft, so congrats! You'll fill in the holes when you revise.

  7. Congrats on reaching your word count goal! :D

Have you read Save The Cat? It's a book for screenwriters, but the 'beat sheet' and the author's analogies that go with it are worth reading it anyway. It SOOO helped me with plotting.

  8. Great job getting your word count goal accomplished! It's tough, isn't it? Good luck on the editing and getting your MS into good shape. The great authors are always saying, "Writing is re-writing."

Thanks for stopping by my blog today...;)

  10. "You write just like you live your life: you never know where you're going, but you just keep moving." yes. Your Brother did a good assessment on your life. I for that matter many writers can very well relate to this.
